Meet Ant Niterl - full-time media manager at Red Bull, part time adventurer up snowy mountain peaks.

Introducing our next Outsider, Ant Niterl - full-time media manager at Red Bull, part time adventurer up snowy mountain peaks.

Ant shared his favourite hunting spot with us in the Outsiders Guide- not for the faint hearted!

Where: The Rakaia, Canterbury Plains

What: Hunting

“Off the beaten track, dwarfed by gnarly rugged surroundings while searching for big Red deer, Chamois or Tahr. The best in spot in NZ to get off the grid with mates and face the elements in order to fill your freezer and your heart with memories.”

We sat down with Ant, to see how he balances his time between work and play.

Ant is no stranger to the outdoors. If he’s not chasing wildlife at high altitudes he’s out in the ocean ‘supervising’ with a beer as his mates reel in the kai moana.

Read our full conversation with Ant and find out about his most epic adventure across NZ, where he filmed his own digital series called ‘ Hunger For Our Roots’.

Ant, what’s your story, where are you from?

Born and raised in South Africa to a Portuguese mother and an Austrian father. A real runt of the litter. In 96 my family immigrated to NZ.

Tell us about what you do for a living - how do you balance your work v getting outside

I work for Red Bull, heading up the Media Network for NZ. Also dabble in my own projects on the side. Writing, producing, presenting, mcing and narrating mainly in live sport and outdoor hunting and fishing shows.

Tell us why the outdoors are so important to you

A place to escape the rat race and immerse myself in nature. I find it very therapeutic, outstanding for my mental health and most importantly to create memories that are etched into my frontal lobe with great mates.

What are your favourite ways of getting off grid and making the most of our New Zealand backdrop

I’m a big mountain and ocean man. I relish my time in the hurt locker climbing snowy peaks chasing tahr, chamois or red deer with mates. Always an adventure that tests you mentally and physically, pair that up with great company and you are onto a winner. When I'm not eating metres under hoof, I try to get around people who are far better at fishing and spearfishing than me. I watch, learn and mostly just enjoy the beers while they reap the harvesting rewards for their families.

Tell us about a NZ adventure you’ll never forget

I filmed a digital series called ‘ Hunger For Our Roots’ which saw me venturing off the beaten track from the nose to the toes of New Zealand, living the wildlife from in a  M2 Overland Land Cruiser. Across each town, I crossed paths with a unique iconic Kiwi, visiting their backyard, discovering their origins, and sharing what made them into the person they are today. Integrated with hunting, fishing, jet boating and a few shenanigans, it has to be one of the best experiences in my life to date.

The series can be found on YouTube.

What’s something that you always make sure to pack when you’re headed on a mission?

Binos, a knife, haribos and spare socks.

What’s a song that you always play on a adventure/mission

Mefjus & Camo & Krooked- Sientelo

If you could go on a one month adventure anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you do?

My number one bucket list item in my life is to live off the grid in Alaska in a log cabin. Living off the land, living off the grid for a few months.

Any adventures planned for 2023?

Back to Fiordland to chase Bluefin tuna, grab a handful of crays and try our luck at a Wapiti deer.
